my steering wheel shakes at like 60 mph this is in my 91 ford econoline 150 van it started hapning when i rotated the back tires to the front im not sure what it could be my brake rotors could be warped. the king pins are shot .or the tires could be off balance .but the tires and rims are pretty new and were balanced from sumitracing.com .
Warped rotors will shake when the brakes are applied. Worn out kingpins will cause a camber problem, usually the top of the tire will lean in. They can also contribute to the shimmy. Even though they were balanced, it's cheap enough to have them spun again. I lost a weight a week after putting new tires on the truck. Took me a few minutes to look things over, and just guessed that was the problem, and was right. Look at your radius arm bushings, and all suspension connections. The r.a. and I beam bushings where they attach to the frame wear out and will prevent the front end from holding proper alignment. Tie rod ends wear out.
If you think you might have a kingpin problem, jack it up, grab the tire top and bottom, and try to wiggle it. For tie rod ends, grab tire by the sides, and wiggle it back and forth.
I replaced my rubber bushings with polyurethane, and installed a steering stabilizer. It made a world of difference.
should have ball joints
jack up and shake as described above
this happened after tire rotation stands to reason its in the tires
also check lug nuts for proper torque
