I bought a new 06 psd in October. I have just started to research mods and their possible efficiency benefits such as better mpg. I'm a farm boy and feel the pressures of $$ constraints. I bought my pickup to work, it will be getting a flatbed shortly, Im not interested in seeing how fast I can run a quarter. I would like some feedback on mods people have done and realized efficiency gains. Any help is appreciated.

You can see the mods I have below. Generally speaking, and I do mean generally , I get about 2-3 mpg better than I did stock, if I keep my foot out of it.
But the mpg benefits I now enjoy are completely wiped out by the money spent.
Like most have said, if you're looking to increase your MPGs to save money, then take the dollars you would have spent on any mod and put it in a savings account.
Though we are loath to admit it, we put mods on mostly for fun, with a few exceptions for the folks really needing the extra power.
Heck, even the price of a cheap cold air intake will buy you a lot of fuel, and you'd be years in getting back in the black with your investment.
If you want to save $$, keep your tires aired up and you extra cash in the bank.
Now 'scuse me while I complete my order for my new Bank Technicooler
Haha, indeed I have started learning that. How does your Banks exhaust sound? I would like to help the ole ih breathe a little better. I have several friends with straight pipes on them but they are too loud and sound too much like glasspaks to me. A Bullydog rep told me their exhaust was quiet, but he was in fact a salesman too. Thanks for the input!

Hey Storm I've always thought storm chasing would be fun bc as a farmer I'm fascinated with weather. Now that I see your mods I must assume that the pay scale is a s#!t load better as well. I wish I got paid.. StormChasing for Skywarn is Volunteer basis.. We don't get paid.. And sometimes the NWS will assist us in damage we may sustain to our vehicle.. Like I said "sometimes".. Mostly it's our pocket.. Unless your special and you join a Skywarn Group that gets corporate sponsorships for monitoring equipment, etc.. Most of those guys are Meterologists or Science geeks.. I'm just a Chaser.. I go after the Tornados.. Spotters are the guys who hang in the back with the 25 antenna's on their vehicles and every radar imaginable..
For a living I'm a Network Engineer in Austin.. So thats where my pocket for mods go.. Believe me.. I've watched money disappear in this truck but I feel it worth wild everytime I climb in her and fire it up.. Just like Will said in Talladega Nights.. "I have a Chubby!"

It's definitely a deeper sound and somewhat more aggressive. But it's nothing like the flowmasters on my 'Stang.
There's no "drone" and the overall noise is well below road and cab noise when driving.
I have the cat removed, so there's more turbo "whistle". I hadn't originally planned to do it, but even though the Banks instructions show how to insert the stock cat into their exhaust line, it just wasn't fitting right, so I opted for a short "cat delete" pipe. We don't sniff diesels at inspection down here in TX. If we ever do, I'll replace it with a performance cat. I've heard straight pipe guys, and I think the more annoying thing would be the increased turbo whistle rather than the exhaust noise itself.
Hell nah... That turbo whine gives me a raging boner! I love firing her up at school and everyone looking.. I have a buddy at school who ex-navy Carrier man.. He use to line up birds on the catapult... Everytime I fire it up he starts doin his Navy crap.. Wave me up, givin me the salute and doin that down and one knee pointing forward stuff.. You know.. TopGun
Plus.. It really throws people off.. I love seeing folks look when I start up.. They got that "WTH is that!" Expression!

Off topic, I just replaced my flatbed with a regular long bed. I could make you a good deal if interested.
The drone is mostly what I was worried about. The turbo whistle is insane outside but not bad on the inside from what Ive heard. Ive got a buddy with dual 4 inch and one with a single 3.5 straight with a 6 inch tip. Both are unGodly loud when they get on them. I drive back and forth to and from school every weekend back to the farm. Its a 2.5 hour drive, I don't want drone, I live my music too much. Plus listening to an exhaust when I'm out feeding cows don't quite fit my likings neither. I feel like I should jump up to 4 inch probably, but nothing more. All I have is a Bullydog TripleDog downloader for mods, and it is never on anything but Tow/Economy. All I'm interested in is driveability and maybe a little economy pretty much. That and I want some pride and enjoyment out of my investment.

Don't know much about flatbeds. It's for a Long bed and has
a fifth wheel ball under a trap door in the middle.
Has all the light and a small storage box on passanger side.
Have you guys had any trouble since you have changed your exhaust? I've heard of people having trouble after they swapped them out, and some talk about the back pressure sensor. I want to do something if my dealership will let me but I don't want trouble out of it because I didn't do something right. Storm, where are you chasing storms at? I don't know about doing it for free but that always seemed like one helluva job to have.
