Thumbs up Advice on Towing

I am new to the whole towing with a diesel program and was hoping I could get some advice.
  • Should I use the Tow/Haul for both up and down steep grades?
  • Is it ok to Tow up a steep grade in “D”?
  • What gear is the right gear?
  • How many RPM’s is to much?
I’d rather be humble and ask for advice than be humbled and pay for it at the dealership!

1. Definetely use Tow/Haul on grades. Lots will turn it on as soon as they start truck when pulling a large trailer.

2. Use tow/haul, that's why Ford put it there...will save your tranny.

3. Towing on flat I use D, but as soon as I hit hills, Tow/Haul

4. Install an EGT gauge....don't sweat RPM's

5. Read this: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...ch-folder.html

BPofMD got it.

Always leave the transmission selector in 'D' when towing. The TorqShift will pick the correct gear based on load and throttle position.

The '3', '2', and '1' positions will put the TorqShift in those respective gears and it will not shift up or down. Let the Tow/Haul help you out and you'll tow happily ever after.

I agree with what has been said and watch your engine and tranny temps.

It's pretty hard overspeed the engine if you've got the automatic. You'll love the Tow/Haul feature, especially on downgrades.

BP's got you covered for the rest.

Optimum power for the 6.0 is between 1800 and 2100 rpm. That's my opinion for what it's worth, anyway.
