Changing to dual wheels?

Wanting to change to dual wheels? Help!

I have 1997 F250 2 wheel drive 4 speed/OD 351 ci. Want to use around farm and town. Can I use wheels off a Duallie as long as the lug pattern is the same? What all do I need to do to be successful? I will only load or pull like it is still a F250.

Not sure, but I think the rear-end tubes/axle shafts are shorter on the dually, which means you'll get more stick out if you bolt up dually wheels to the SRW rear end. You don't mention the outboard rear fenders. Also, if you use the matching dually-style wheels on the front, you'll need the spacer behind the wheel. Hope this helps....

I'll be putting a metal flat-bed with ball for pulling a Goose-neck trailer. I plan on getting the matched (6) wheels put on first, then get the right width bed to cover the rear wheels properly.

Rear wheel offset

I did this to a 77 f250 camper special. What I found is the distance from the rear wheel mounting face to the leaf springs was the largest problem to overcome. We had to machine .75" spacer with a hub pilot on it to recieve the dually rims. Locate extra extra long lug bolts to be pressed through brake drum and the existing Ford spacer on the axle, and new fabbed spacer. Tires only clear the leaf springs by .375" but that's all you need. If tire hits the spring, you are already in trouble.

On two wheel drive , just replace the front hubs with the f350 dually style, in 77 the spindles bearings and brakes were all the same, dont know about your 97.

As long as you are removing the box, you wont have the inner fender issues that would have occurred.

I think I converted this 20 years ago and have never had issuse with the set up. It gets pulled every weekend thoughout the spring summer and fall, so it has proven itself.
