I hear a noise when turning left only. It sounds like a slight gringing noise from the right (passenger side) front wheel. It is very faint. I rotated tires, lubed and checked front end and all looks ok. No change in noise. No play in drivers side wheel but I think I feel a very little play when wiggling the right front wheel up and down NOT front to back. Any Ideas? Is it DIY job. I don't have all the tools it sounds like you all have.
Thanks, Chistoso
Sounds to me like the hub bearings are shot. You have to buy the entire assembly, since the bearings are non-serviceable. It will cost you around $300 or so.
The swap is pretty straightforward, and easier if you get the hub with the wheel studs already attached. If not, you have to pull the old ones off the original hub.
do you feel anything when comming to a stop? im wondering if i have the same problem, passenger side wheel bearing going? or letting off the gas on high ways i can hear a slight humming noise or something. but truck drives fine other wize. though i still need to get my ball joints done, ill probebly ahve the wheel bearings done at the same time.
Powerstroke shop has a very good deal on a kit that replaces both wheel bearing, all four ball joints all the seals and everything. Im thinking about going that route since its all there. I think its like 750$ to service both sides. With the discounts i can get around here locally, i cannot beat that price. It comes with the moog ball joints and i belive federal mogul wheel bearings.
I don't hear anything unless i'm turning left. It drives fine otherwise. It's when I make a sharp left turn. I'm also coasting through the turn and not accelerating yet.
If you have the stock hubs, you probably have one that isn't disengaging fully. Ditch the factory auto hubs and upgradw to the Warn premiums before next winter. If you have one acting up by not releasing, it will probably act up by not engaging when you need it to.
