Wheel Alignment

1997 F150 4.6L 4x4

Hello everyone,

Been having a wierd issue with my steering. The truck tends to want to pull slightly to the left and the steering wheel seems not to be quite centered when driving. I usually have to hold the steering wheel just slightly right of center to drive straight, although this seems to not always be the case but usually is. And, it almost seems like there is some play in the steering although this may not be a correct description of what it actually may be or feel like to others. Also, the steering wheel seems to turn easier to the right then it does when turning it to the left. Again, this is very very slight.

About 9k miles ago I had the lower ball joints replace and new tires put on and everything was perfect. 4k miles after that I took the truck to Ford for the 90k service package and this is when I first noticed things werent quite right and the truck was pulling to one side slightly and the steering wheel was "different".

Another, 4k miles after that I took it to the place I had the ball joints and new tires put on and had them do the free tire rotation and balance and had them do an alignment as well as I thought this might fix the problem, but it didnt. And they didnt seem to notice any apparent problems and the computer printout said the steering wheel is centered which it is when stopped or driving slowly it seems.

So, now Im wondering what could possibly be different from when I had the ball joints replaced and new tires put on. It was literally driving like new.

From my description above does anyone here have any idea's what could be going on? I wish I was able to describe it better for you guys.

Thanks for the opinions.

Mike

I've had tires do that, try swapping front tires side to side and see if it changes.

Tires yes, but maybe the alignment wasn't done right. Hard to find a shop that knows how to do it right.
