I think if you check, for a given model year the rotors and calipers on the diesel and the gasser are identical. So the braking should be the same. Ford did increase the rotor size in 05, if I recall.

I have given some more consideration to getting a v10. My truck pulls the trailer just fine, but we may opt for a slightly larger trailer in the next year or two. If I could find a 2005-2007 V10 with manual hubs, 4x4 shift lever, and no extra bells and whistles beyond the XLT package, I might bite. I am having no luck finding one locally though. It just seems like a 3v 6.8l with 4.30 gears, tqshift, and manual 4x4 would be a reliable beast that would pull anything I could hook to it.

Since my truck is set up exactly how I like it, I might just regear to 4.10 or 4.30 and roll with it.

Again though, my truck in its present config pulls the 5er just fine.

racinghoss,

I surely appreciate your updates to this thread. My current 26' TT weighs ~6,000 lbs with no potable, grey, or black water onboard. I don't know how long we will keep this one or if we'll change to a different model as the kids get older.

Looking at a 4X4 F350 CC LWB SRW, I want a truck so I can take a motorcycle with me. I want to have my cake and eat it, too! :-} My E350 w/ 5.4L gets 16-17 mpg on the highway with no trailer.

A gas engine is what I want. And the one that gets the best mileage with a motorcycle (or two) in the bed and no trailer in tow is what I would like, as that is how most of the miles will be put on. I anticipate several 1800-2000 mile road trips per year (Chicago to Baton Rouge-area) for the next few years. But I also want the ability to move up to a larger TT (up to 10-11K lbs) in the future without overtaxing the truck.

It sounds like the 5.4 w/ 4.10 gearing will be more than adequate. It looks like it will either be that or the 6.8 w/ 4.10 gears.
