Does anybody know where I can get the pan that holds up the gas tank on my '90 Bronco. The pan rusted out completely. I bought a new 33 gal. tank from JC-Whitney, but the don't carry the pan.
Ford is so overpriced on it I walked out on them. If anyone has ideas I'd appreciate them, need to get my Bronc back on the road as quick as I can.
Thanks in advance!

Since the pan basically holds the tank in place you have about three options.
1. Visit Napa and obtain some gas tank straps to hold the tank against the frame. (But this does not offer any protection to the tank)
2. Hit the local junk yard for a used one. OR Check the Bronco Graveyard - the link is available on this board.
3. Visit a metal shop and manufacture one. Fortunatly I have a great metal shop in my area and will manufacture any shape needed. The critical measurement is the distance from the frame to the bottom of the tank.
My personal one had a hole rusted through and when I replaced my tank I also repaired the hole.
Well, I looked at Bronco graveyard. They want $100 for the pan, not including shipping. I called some different Ford dealers and got them down to $125. So I might just go with Ford, because I could get it sooner. Hard to believe they want so much money for a peice of tin.

If you pay $125 for that I've got some ocean-front property in Colorado I'd love to sell you. The price is right, and I even include the vaseline. I got a gas tank skid plate at a 'yard for $10. Was in good shape, just one small dent that a BFH made quick work of. Bob's first two suggestions are right on. Get a strap kit from Napa to hold your tank in place until you find a used skidplate. The straps will work perfectly fine for driving around the streets, so you can get your Bronco back on the road. 99% of vehicles use straps anyway. Ford was just cheap and decided the skid plate could serve double duty. A strap kit from Napa should cost no more than $12 or so. See these links:
Actually you could use both. Go to Napa or whatever parts stores is in your area and buy the straps. Then goto a junkyard or Ford to get a new skid plate. Why you ask? read this page http://www.2bigbroncos.com/technical/feb99_01.html
HOpe this helps.
Actually, I got done lookin at it and decided, what the heck, I'm a handyman. So I brushed the pan, painted it thick with rust-oleum and pop-rivited in a bid sheet of stainless steel. I'm gonna lay a peice of an innnertube rubber over the pop-rivets. I hope it won't be too tight. I did think about a junkyard, but my Bronco is only 12 years old an I take care of it, I doubt I'd find anything different.
