Got my new '07 super duty diesel the other week, lovin' it. Came from an old Inline-6, so you could easily say that I got a smile on my face.
Looking to lift it in the next few months-
-bought some Procomp XMT's (37-12.50-18) with their buy 3, get one free.
-looking at Procomp OR Fabtech 6" kit- new rad arms, rear track bars.
Not sure if anyone's got experience with the above lift and tires- opinions, ideas, comments surely welcomed. I don't mind losing some of the carrying capacity either, willing to sacrifice that for a smoother ride.
And for the main question- I've been reading that some of those engine tuners and chips and stuff- you can program in your tire size and gear ratio.
This is going to correct shift patterns and speedo if I am not mistaken?
Advice on chipping and tuning welcomed. Brands, ease of use. I basically want a plug and play- 3-4 modes is fine with me- nothing special.
Another goal is to get better fuel economy.
Am I going to be needing to re-gear?
Or are these aftermarket computers enough to compensate?
Intake and exhaust mods?
It's doubtful that I will be putting this new truck through the ringer as I did in my straight-6. The new one is strictly a mechanic haulin' hwy driver, sled hauler, etc...
I have a 4 month old '07 F-250. I just had it lifted a couple of weeks ago. I went with the Fabtech 6' radius arm kit. I would avoid the ProComp hardware. A buddy of mine used to work there and nothing good to say about anything they produce (except tires/wheels).
The Fabtech kit is awesome. It is well built and rides great. I am running 35x13.50R20 tires on 20x9.5 wheels. You didn't say whether or not your truck was a 4x4. If it is you will not have a problem with rubbing on 37's. I have a ton of room, enough to run 37's, but I won't because I also tow with this truck.
I also have a Magnaflow 4" turbo back exhaust and no intake mods (other than an intake elbow). You will suffer a little mileage and performance degradation (yours will be worse than mine, 37vs35), but I didn't think it was that bad. I just received my SCT xcal2 tuner the other day from LIPD. I am just waiting on the tunes before I install it.
Is your truck a long bed, short bed, crew cab, ext cab... The length of your wheelbase will make a difference in the smoothness of your ride. Tire pressure will make a difference as well. I run my tires hard (on the street) for fuel economy & notice my ride quality suffers.
I have an '04 w/ the 6" Procomp kit on it & 37 12.50's, but obviously my front (w/ leaf springs) is different than yours. Whatever kit you get it is best to get rear springs vs blocks to prevent wheelhop & help w/ the ride.
My Procomp kit is stiff, but acceptable. I wouldn't shy away from Procomp in regards to quality as Chumlely suggests (sorry), I've had a good experience; I;ve been running it for 2 years.
I also noticed that the wheels I purch (also Procomp) don't have the right offset & looked "sucked in." I ended up putting wheel spacers on to make them stick out a bit more to give my rig that "Tonka Truck" look.
Don't know much about tuners. I have a turbo-back exhaust & intake & the truck has plenty of power for what I want. Not such great fuel econonmy w/ the lift though...
Hey congrats on the new truck. We have sold a lot of Fabtech and some Procomp for the Superduties we build. (see www.monstertrucksale.com ) Both kits are excellent. The traction bars on the back will reduce or eliminate axle wrap, especially if your truck is diesel? You will have an option to replace the front radius arms (more cost) or put a basic kit that provides a bracket to mount the factory arms in the lower position. This functions fine, just not as much clearance for offroading. If you are using the block kit for the rear depending on 250 or 350 you may not like the stance immediately. Let the front sag a little and if its still higher in the front than you would like you can replace the factory rear block with a taller one. We are a canadian dealer so we can price out what you need with out customs and brokerage fees etc. The Procomp kit comes on one skid and is less to ship and the shocks are adjustable in the kit, but you can always add those to the Fabtech kit. Any Ford dealer can reprogram the speed and shift points for bigger tires. And yes you will get better mileage if you swap out the gears.Send a request to parts@blackstockford.com for a free F Series Aftermarket Catalogue, for Canadian FTE members.
Nice work on the 250- I got the silver truck too!! F-350 lariat 4x4 crew cab long box and it's just dying to get jacked up. I'm booked to tint the front windows 35% black this week. I might just do 25% (75% light in) but not sure yet. It's gonna look sweet.
So what's wrong with the pro comp stuff?? The kit in the procomp PDF document pics look pretty good. I don't think my guy in Vancouver would be selling me any crap. I got some time before this shutdown ends so I guess I'm gonna do some more research.
I have also heard good reviews about the FabTech stuff, I have a buddy that's running their 6" with 37-14-18 on AR teflon Mojaves. Those rims have got a huge offset- so the tires stick out pretty far. I'm not really liking that at all- the truck is always dirty- he's not running flares.
I'm still leaning Pro-comp- and my guy recommened to go with the mid-model shock
- he told me the mx series like to blow up under the diesel's weight.
Anbody got good info on alarms and remote starters??
Thanks for the info- greatly appreciated.

Nothing wrong with the procomp at all. In my opinion the procomp is a tad sexier and the fabtech is tad better engineered. As for Procomp shocks check out this thread I was involved in. He put the totally wrong shock on and Procomp still stood behind him. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...mp-shocks.html The MX6 are adjustable and look great. The Procomp also ships on one skid
If you read around you will see that the best lifts are either Donahoe Racing or Rize Industries. If you want a good ride that is what you should be looking at. They are more expensive though.
As far as adjusting for the tire size, the only way I know of to adjust for bigger than 35" tires is the Superlift Tru-Speed.
How did you make out with the SCT tuner from LIPD? How do they work? They send you the tunes to DLoad or do they actually have to do something to it? Im thinking of getting one, and im curious how it works.
