I need help guys what will cuase the # 19 fuel pump/PCM fues to keep blowing out . the truck seems to still be getting fuel ,I just drove it home about 15 miles with the fuse blown. and the pump is not operateing help help help
I don't have a schematic on the 2000 7.3's handy but I believe the fuse for the PCM on all of the model years also powers the fuel bowl heater. Unplug it at the fuel bowl and try another fuse.
the pump is new I just put it on last month. this morning it made a sqealing noise at first start up and that was it it has'nt done it since. could a new pump just go out that quickly, and if so what would cuase it to fail.
Chances are that it's not the pump but there is always the possibility of a defective unit. Blowing a fuse is going to be due to a short of the power wire to ground or a component drawing too much current. If the pump is drawing less current than the fuse is rated, it's probably good.
Check the connections at the pump to make sure that they did not get crimped or have chaffed on something to make it short out since that seems to be the only recent change. You could disconnect the wires to the pump and try another fuse. If it holds, then you know it's the pump or the power wire going to the pump.
Mak- These trucks will run and drive without an operating fuel pump albeit with a lot less power and louder than usual. The easiest way to verify it is the pump is to disconnect the pump, make sure the wire is not touching a ground and put a fuse back in it. If it does not blow, thenHook the pump up. If it does blow, then you have your problem. If the fuse blows without the pump hooked up the next esy halfsplit wold be the Fuel pump relay. If that is not the problem you will need a multimeter to go any further in t/s. Remember though the PCM will shut off power to the pump after about 15 seconds without the truck running. After looking in my Helm book, there is nothing else inthat circuit, other than the inertia fuel shut off. But that shouldn't cause the circuit to ground out.
