[QUOTE=ncranchero]The 3595 fits multiple applications and some of them may still use the old style clips. If you can see the number on your old filter just interchange it on the Wix site I posted. That way you'll be 99 % sure you got the right one.
Motorcraft FG986B crosses to 3595 NAPA. You're good to go.
I may be overdoing it but I replace my fuel filter every 10,000 miles. It can't hurt. I keep my trucks 8 to 10 yrs so I do everything I think will help it last.
Screwey: Thanks for posting the pics. I havn't seen the wrench type tool you described, guess I havent looked.
Pat2724, let us know if you see any improvement. I'll be filling up my tank today and will post new mileage numbers as soon as it is gone.
maybe i missed someone posting it, but i'd assume that on our "older" trucks we still need to release the pressure via the reset switch? can i (we) go off of the very detailed description on the main page of the '04+ replacements, or are ours totally different?
I just replaced mine about a month ago. I just let my truck sit for about 3hrs. I used the NAPA wrench type tool and just put a rag over it incase any fuel pressure was still built up. No problems.
The guy at NAPA got both the wrench type and the pack of multiple plastic sleeves out. I went with wrench.
now i want you back woods rednecks like me to know and for those of you who are interested you can cut the threads off of a 20 oz coke bottle and cut the neck about a inch or 2 past where the threads were and you have one whatchamacallit for any size line you need. ive used a many of them over the years and they never let me down and thanks for posting this forum eveready77 you reminded me to change mine.
You're welcome. And thank you for posting the coke bottle trick. I love it! Good to see that there are more redneck engineers out there. I may have to get with some of my buddies around here and post a list of these redneck remedies to get you through a bind.
i dont know how many miles but i've put 40,000 or so kilometres on it since the last time it was changed. I've got 316,000 kilometres on her now. Only recently I've noticed the fuel mileage has dropped off considerably. I would do it myself but am not too fond of smelling gasoline and buying a tool for it. I'll take her in and get her done up.

As for the tool, I cut a piece of a anti-freeze jug, wraped it arount the line, slipped it in with slip-nose pliers and waa-lah off it came. Then I went a bought the tool. $12.99 @ NAPA (metal scissor type, 2 sizes) for the next time. My brain gets tired when I think that hard on a weekend.

What do you do with metal tool? does it just hold the coupling? is the coupling threaded? How did you do it?
