I was on my way home from work this afternoon. I came off the cloverleaf, and jumped into the fast lane. As my van downshifted, I started to pull past slower traffic. All of a sudden I hear this loud *bang*. It sounded like a manual trans does when it pops out of gear. All of a sudden, I had absolutely no pull. I coasted off the interstate. The only gear that works right now is park. No Forward, no Reverse. Neutral works GREAT... sorry, had to say it. There is no fluid leakage, and the trans is still full. There is a very slight burnt smell, but nothing out of the ordinary......
I'm going to talk to a buddy of mine tomorrow. He's the transmission guy at my local ford dealership and does work on the side. I'll see what he says too...
probably a broken intermediate band or blown clutch pack with chunks metal cuttings throughout the tranny.
get a later A4LD ouf of a 93>95 4L Aero, Ranger or Explorer and stick in
I sow brocken TC, and small shaft from TC to inside the tranny. Cliff! I think so, becouse the Forward Clutch operates separatly of Reverce band, but Web-Foot Freak
says, that there is no (D) and no reverce. The last hypotesa - broken ATF pump. No ATF pressure. But loud BANG sound.... as say in Russia - Stalingrad inside the tranny. Really easier to get later A4LD of Aero, Ranger, Bronco, Scorpio, transit.... ore 5 st tranny.
This is a 3.0 engine... there is no hope for the tranny still under the van. I'm also having probs finding a replacement. I can get a new one, but I don't think the cost is worth it... I really don't have that kinda $$ anyways...
