I own a 2003 F-150 fx4 4x4 with 50M miles and I started experiencing a steering problem. When you drove the vehicle it felt like you were driving on ice, real loose especially in the curves. A local mechanic diagnosed the problem and replaced the steering gear box and it now drives like new, but with a $600 repair bill!
I have searched the forms and have not found a lot of posts about this issue and have also searched for recalls and have only found one with the issue of the nut being loose, not the entire pump going out.
Has this been a problem with Ford with this truck or is just a freak thing with a part that is usually reliable, especially with the amount of miles on it that I had?
The steering boxes on these trucks are generally very reliable. I think the only ones I've ever replaced were damaged in accidents.
I'd say you just had some bad luck with yours.
