Yes, My buddy has an stock 03 V10 and basically same truck as mine(minus the fact I have the 5.4) He gets 9-10 mpg consistantly. Im getting 12-13 now. Hopefully soon Ill be getting better mileage when the weather gets warmer. My buddy bought a ranger to drive to work everyday and lets his F250 sit.
The short answer is that there is not much difference in mpg between the two - assuming similar trucks. Come over to the V10 Forum and do a search. You will find a lot of good information on this topic from some very knowledgeable folks.
In certain situations it is just a matter of simple physics to determine that the 6.8L will use more fuel than the 5.4L.
Strange thing is...it's only in certain situations. Unloaded highway, same gearing...obviously it takes less fuel to feed the smaller engine.
Things change when you're towing or loaded though. Same with taking off and driving in the city. Since the V10 makes more power for each given RPM versus the V8 it actually requires LESS use of the "go-pedal".
9-10 average in not indicative of a well tuned, properly maintainted V10. 12 is more the average range.
12-14 consisantly??? if you have a 38 gallon tank thats means it could be anywhere from 456 miles to 532 miles...thats not very consistant...unless you meant 12 (city) 14 (highway)..thats like saying "my truck consistantley makes 300-375 hp " o well maybe im missing something...lol im just bustin em man
on a lighter not my dad gets around 10 and i get around 12...hes a cc daully v10 and im a sc f250 5.4...their are to many variables when deciding mpg...THE BIGGEST IS THE PERSONS DRIVING HABITS...you can have 2 identicle trucks and one get way worse mpg because of the persons driving habits...what about gears...how well the truck is running...is #1 driving with the ac blasting. or is #2 driving at 75 mph with the windows down...(resistance is probably the largest factor...) caps and tonnaue covers makes a difference...their are to many factors..bank on the fact that you will get any where from 8-13...now you know that either way both are going to get crap for mileage...but then again my dad has seen as low as 8 unloaded and i have never seen less than 10.4
I failed to type in 50/50 mixed driving. It does vary in that range. Depending on what time of year (winter/summer bled fuel), did I use 4wd for any length of time, did I get mad and some ricer and show them what 10 burning and 4 turning is all about!, Did I drive to wark at 70 instead of 60 mph?

i was just bustin you ***** man...no harm...lol...i knew what you meant...no hard feeling
In my experiance no. I have had 3 a 99, 2001, 2003. All pretty much the same truck including gears but 1 was a 5.4 and two a v-10. THe v-10's have averaged 13.5 and the 5.4 was no better. I have also had two diesel supers too and could not get over 15 from them.

short trips....
my buddy drives about 7 miles to work everyday so that definately kills it, same reason my mileage sucks and i drive 5 miles to work everyday. short trips are a bitch on MPG.
