Project engine safely stashed away

Put it on a pallet, laid the VC's on it and moved it in the barn, then covered it with a tarp.

Once I get done on a trailer that's in my shop, I'll bring it back around and get it steamed off and cleane up to check it out.

I think it's too heavy for my cheapo stand, so I'll make another on casters and be able to move it around as roll it over to check the bottom end out.

Oh yeah. Yup, yup, that thing is heavy. You'd better make a real tough SOB of an engine stand to hold that beast.

Sorry to hear about the trannie fluid being a little burnt in color, Mike. I hope it turns out to be just old and neglected, like me. I can still shift gears. Maybe a little slower these days, but I get there. And bad traction for mud? It's all in the heart. No mud's gonna keep me from crossing the finish line. Sometimes a little fresh fluid will give me a boost, where I'm scootin like a teenager again. Then again, when I down too many of those "fresh fluids", I can find myself in situations that an old guys has no business being in, and feel it later. Arrrrg... Oops, rambling again...

Anyway. I hope the rest of the stuff is adequate for the project. Let me know how the trannie comes out. I've got my fingures crossed. The body was kind of banged up, where I thought maybe she was at the wreckers due to an unpleasant mug. Looks can be deceiving though.

Anyway, keep us posted on how it's working out.

It'll be a few weeks before I get busy on it...just cleared space in my shop ...and now they're calling for rain here and there and I've been trying to finish up this trailer, so had to move it in and take the spot.

I'm hoping for the best on the engine, sure was clean under the VC's...like it was taken care of...transmissions have a way of getting neglected and I think this was was, even the fluid in the TC was black....oh well might check scrap weight on them

It might still be ok Mike. Might just need a fluid and filter change. I've heard of that working for negelected trannies. Besides, it may have been sitting for a while, exposed, where the fluid became contaminated due to exposure. It was in the back of my truck over the winter, with nothing but a tarp to cover.

But if not, don't dump it yet Mike. When I did the trannie swap (auto to 4 speed) on my 73, I left the old freshly rebuilt C-6 at the yard where we did the swap. It's been a few years so no guarantee. It was barfing trannie fluid, shortly after I paid good money to rebuild it. I barely made it home, that fatefull day, before I decided to go over to the old reliable NP435. Pulled that sucker and modified to accept the 4 speed.

I forgot about that trannie, and it probably was haulled off, but there is an outside chance that it might still be there. The only problem was a very serious leak. Might have been a seal, then again, it might have been casting as part of the rebuild was a new housing. So, there might be a possiblility of matching parts to make one good transmission.

Give me a chance to check it out. It might be a few days.
