trans ???

today started good..was nice and warm for the first time this year..so I washed my truck ..cleaned my wheels and shined every thing up..went to wally world ..every thing went fine..heading home I notice a smooth shift going into 3rd..my tc lock always locks at that time and will some times jerk the truck if I for get about it..after i got out on the road at 50..the Trans would slip at all times..I un hooked my tc lock and hooked every thing up to stock. thinking it was my sp diesel tc lock and exhaust brake unit.now I can feel the tc lock at 32 to 33 mph but she slips when I get after it..my Trans temp went to 180..it has never been over 150 and the was on my tip to Florida in December..the rest of the time it has been 100 to 125 at most since October when my gauges were put in..AE pulled a
P 0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off

could this be a cylinoid messing up?? or a bad tc??? thanks guys..seems as if though when ever i want to put my box of mods on..something else comes up....

TCC slippage detected - The PCM picked up an excessive amount of TCC slippage during normal vehicle operation.

Check this out with AE http://www.7point3.com/AETips/Docs/T...verterSlip.pdf

After looking at that datalog the shift solenoids appear to be functioning correctly but there is excessive slip in the TC when you were running in the mid power range.

this is what i got with my AE if any one can help and if it will post.....fluid smells a little burnt..it has ever since I put the BTS vb in..remember this is my first auto..ive always had sticks.so smell and color are not familiar....fluid was kinda brown then with a 155k mile on it..i added 8 qts off trans fluid and a new filter when i did the vb..it tinted it more red and still looks the same now with 166k..shifts have always been good but noticed the tc would some times lock up and unlock at 5 mph when set at 22.and it would re lock at 22 and be fine...I have a case of fluid here..I was going to change it when I did true cool..it isn't in yet and send a sample to black stone...thanks alot..

some thing else I was thinking..this morning after washing my truck. I sprayed with my power washer under the inner fender by the oil filter and oil cooler.same on passenger side...I went down town and the truck stumbled a couple times..I thought maybe I got something wet so I let it idle at 1200 with dp tuner for about 5 minutes then went to walmart it was fine..on my way home the tc acted up...could this be some thing???

Burnt fluid is NEVER a good sign. Basically, if it smells like something burnt in it, you might have something burnt in it. Try this. Smell the fluid as it is and then burn some and see if it smells anything like the burning smoke.

I think it was a coincidence that this happened with the washing. That is unless you put water in the dipstick tube.

all though my fluid smells a little burnt and is a little brown ( I noticed this when I did the BTS vb in October)the Trans had never slipped or missed a beet in the last 11000 miles..I put in my Trans temp gauge in October and it has never been over 150*it still shifts and you can feel the tc lock and un lock very little..but it slips a lot..would you consider putting in a new tc?? I found this one on e-bay.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...3948QQtcZphoto
would this be worth my time??I don't have the cash right now for a new Trans..thanks for your input guy's

Ron, when my diode locked up, I pulled over within 1 mile. The temp never went over 170 and the fluid smelt burnt. The problem was that at some point, it heated up to burn but when it mixed with the rest of the fluid, this hot fluid cooled down and hence the lower reading.

I suppose I would try get a cheap TC since I think the trans is on it's way out and you are trying to limp it along. What does your trans shop have for an OEM replacement?

For 3900 plus shipping you can get a BTS. He might even give you partial credit for your VB. Ask him. BTS has a 2 yr 24K written warranty and will take care of you for the rest of the life of the trans. Just ask around. Guy even gave me credit for my VB that was swirling in hot, debris laden fluid for over 100 miles.

i gave that some thought..if i had $5,000 to play with i might go that rout..the problem is the core charge i dont have..i dont have 32 for a trans as it is..and shipping is 600 or so to get it here.. then again to get mine back to him...
also the warranty factor..im a 23 hour drive from him..what good is the warranty if i got to pay shipping on this thing going to him.. then back.. down time would kill me too....

It costs that much to go back and forth? Usually the price he tells you for shipping includes round trip. He sent me my trans in a box with some paperwork and when I took mine out, I put it back in the box and sent it right back without paying anything more. Maybe you could ask him these questions. They would be more than happy to tell you what it all includes.

that was a price I was told..maybe it was both ways..I didn't really ask him that at the time I got my vb in October..my Trans was working good and i didn't really need to replace it...I will give him a call this morning and ask him again..it wont hurt...I have heard nothing but good on his work and that's what makes me want one..but not all Trans are perfect..not cause of the work..but some parts can fail that people cant see..that bothers me a little..thanks for your time and advice. ..I guess I got some thinking and fast talking to do. .I may get the tc and swap it out..just take my chances it will hold out a few more months and start saving...

Also, he isn't going to screw you on the warranty by saying that you abused it or whatever. AFAIK, it breaks, he fixes. Even after the written warranty, he will fix it for a token sum which is probably less than a new TC. A new TC costs about 1100 and there is no way I know of to be sure it is clean unless you cut it apart, clean and reweld it back. That was why I didn't want to go with a ford Reman for less. Because they would find some reason (chip, exhaust) etc, etc to deny my warranty claim. BTS even saw JT Harvey racing the truck and hauled it back to his shop for fixing at his expense and bought him lunch. This he did for a guy who won his trans in an open house drawing.

yes ive read that post..i have no problem with BTS..i have his vb and love the shifts..i have no douts about the warranty...im sure he stands behind his work..that being said a part does happen to break..will he be willing to send me the part and i fix it??or would he want to install it him self??will warranty pay shipping???...then the down time comes into play...these are question i need to ask him this morning...
