Spark Plugs

After spending way to much time finding the park plugs on my truck I finally located them but have no idea how to get the cap off so I can get the plugs out and put new ones in. Is there some trick that I am not aware of in order to get these plugs out?

Thanks

Its been a couple years since I changed the plugs in my truck, but Im pretty sure there is a screw that holds the coils down.

a little boot grease on the lip of the rubber boot should make it slip right back onto the plug. you inow you got it if the coil screw hole sets just about right prior to installing it.

I am not seeing any COP screw holes. The COP's just pull off or at least they have this far. I have put some grease on them when re-installing but I am still geting a misfire on clyinder # 1. (the only one I've messed with this far)

Well this is turning into a larger project that I was planning on. During my adventures under the hood yesterday it seems that the lower quarter of my boot has broken off so now I need to get some new wires to replace the broken ones. I'm assuming this is why my cyinder is misfiring even though the boot sits all the way down onto the plug.

How difficult is it too replace the spark plug wires? At this point I may as well relace those while I'm at it.

Also, I know that may guys are partial to Motorcraft and not Autolite, I'm just wondering if that is personal preference or if there are problems with the Autolite or Bosch wires.

Thanks in advance fellas. You're really helping out on this one.

I guess I don't have COP's. I just have spark plug boots and he wires that are running to what I am guessing is my distributor. So no I do Not have COP's.

I am just haveing one heck of a time getting the spark plug boots to fit back over my spark plugs. Every time I try I still have a cylinder that is mis firing. I got some new plugs and wires this morning so I am going to try and get everything put back together but any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You have coil paks that the wires go to.
Mark each one so you know how to put the new one back in their proper places or do one at a time.
The grease is to be put on the inside of the boot tip. Put enough in eash to make it worthwhile. This makes them 'find' the plug tip easy and go down on. You must use your sense of feel to carefully feel when the boot has gone over the plug tips and the boot seats in it normal location without forcing it down and having it not stay in place.
You must follow this closely or there can be missfire problems because you can't see under the boots as you put them on.
The old boots break because they get hard and stick fast to the plugs. The grease is to help prevent this and make assembly easy.

another thing i've done, on my cars, if the wires allow it, is to pull the boot UP the wire, so that the metal that snaps over the plug tip is exposed. then you push it on, getting a better audible snap, and visual on some vehicles, and then slide the boot down...which is very easy to do since you have put dielectric grease on it.

Thanks for all of your replys. I really appreciate it. I was able to chane two of my plugs along with putting in 2 new wires yesterday. I made sure to use plenty of grease and I was able to get them back on. Hopfully I can get the rest of them changed this afternoon.

Is there any trick to getting an old stuck boot off of the old plug? Some of them I pull hard enough to bust a blood vessel and they are still on there. Any tips would be great.

Thanks again.

Some of the ways I would entertain is a thin screw driver to get between the plug and the remaining boot, an exacto knife to slice the rubber, a thin long screw driver with a bend in the tip to use as a hook.
A mirrior and light should help to see into the well.
