I have a 97F150 4.2liter with 90,000. Whenever I try to accelerate the engine just sputters and hiccups until I let off the gas. I have been reading through the last six months of forum postings and have noticed others with the same problem. The three main responses seem to be:
1. Clogged egr ports
2. bad spark plugs and/or spark plug wires
3. bad coil packs
Does anyone have any other ideas?? Can I do any of this work myself or should I take it straight to the Dealer(ouch)?
I just started having what sounds like the same problem. I am getting 02 sensor code and #4 cylinder misfire code. I'm going to change 02 sensor (bank 1, sensor 1) and plugs. Probably will also change #4 coil pack also. I'll let ya know if this fixes mine.
