Power Window Lube

I got it done this morning after reading the posts last week about it (and the link to kwik's thread). My front windows were starting to act a little slow. Took about an hour for all four as kwik suggested, and definitely made a difference. I found the plumber's silicone valve lube (like very thick vasoline) at Lowes near the plumbing solder supplies for about $3.00. It looks like a small amount, but it goes a very long way. I don't think I even used a 1/4 of the container. Also sprayed the fabric tracks (top and down in the doors) with CRC silicone spray as someone else suggested. I would think this drastically decreases the load on the motors extending their lives, so if you're not looking forward to buying a $100-$150 (potentially x4!) window motor(s), take the time and do this...

Thanks again for the tips guys!!

Joe

when you lubed the tracks, did you just pull the panel off and then put the lube in the track where the window sits on the bottom?

I've been looking for that link...can you point me in the right direction. My front two windows are in need of this.

There are three tracks that need lubed -- it will be obvious when you take the panel off. The first one you can see with it up, the second & third places you'll see when you roll it down. I think it's easiest to reach when it's a little over half way down. I used a flat blade screwdriver to smear the lube in the one that's a bit hard to reach.

The panels come right off after removing the screws under the window switch & reflector (only two screws on each door). If you've never had them off, you simply lift them up & off. The you'll have to pull the cosmetic piece where the mirror mounts off the front doors, too (they just pull straight off). Also, I peeled the plastic seal (you'll see it when the panel comes off) enough to get access to the window tracks. It was sticky enough so I just stuck it back in place.

Here's kwik's thread:
