My Son and I, recently completed his 86 F150 4X4. I have owned this truck for 15 years, and it has been sitting with a bad motor since 2000. He turned 16 last year, so he dicided that he wanted to restore this truck rather than buy something else. A lot of work (and $$$), but it turned out better than expected. Unfortunately, he has already damaged the tailgate (you know how hard it is to find a good one) and a fender while 4wheeling, and the thing lives in the mud now. I'm finding out the hard way, that giving a 16 year old a modified 4wd and telling him not to tear it up, is like giving a fat person a chocolate bar and telling him he can look at it, but can't eat it?. Here's a link to the Gallery for those who are interested.
nice looking truck, that thing is too pretty to be wheelin in! tell him to buy a cheap beater that be can build up for offroading and let that thing stay pretty.
With all the hard work you put into it, I'd take the damn thing away from him if he's just going to tear it up and tell him that he needs to fix his own truck after he buy's it. I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but no 16 year old kid needs a truck that's nicer than a lot of our trucks featured on this site.
He needs to buy a beater if he's going to beat it up. But then, that's just my opinion. And by the way, you did a damn good job on that truck. Want to come to Montana and work on mine? JK.
I do agree somewhat with big hoss i hope he dont beat it up cause she is nice man oh man great job you did but iam happy he decided he didnt want something else and wanted to fix this one its a gem dont wrack er up!
I agree...that thing is ENTIRELY too gorgeous to be anywhere offroad where it could get damaged...and despite the fact he took part in building it, he probably won't have a lot of reserve on tearing it up. This is coming from an 18 year old who's been there, done that, then used his own money to fix it. I won't do it again.
Ok call me stupid 'cause I'm not entirely too knowledgable on this era of truck...but if it's a 351...why does the air filter housing say 361?

It actually says 351. This picture was taken when we first fired it up, it now has the AC all bolted in and operating. It blows 42 degrees, not bad for a R134 conversion. Keep the comments comming, my son got home today from a 3 day vacation, and I'm going to make him read every comment on this post. Maybe then it will sink in.
It's a GORGEOUS looking truck. Brand new engine that looks absolutely spotless. It's clean and fresh, easily got 10 years of fun in it, no sense in tearing it up now doing stupid stuff.
Tell him the cleaner he keeps it, the more the chicks 'round the high school are gonna like it. That should solve a lot of problems.
i think that just looks like a 6 in the picture but actually says 351...i just think its the font on the decal
dude i want to see a pic of those digital guages!!
I can't seem to paste the picture directly to the post(?), but here's a link to the digital guage pod I installed. The pod is for a 87 - 93 ford, but with a little trimming, it fit like a glove.
That truck is gorgeous, I hope mine looks that nice when I get it painted this summer. He needs to keep this truck in nice shape, it would be a huge waste to ruin this one mudding.
It took two newer trucks before it sunk in for me to stop beating the hell out of them. a '99 ranger(blown engine, scratched up rocker panel) and an '00 f150 (bent frame, blown airbags, numerous squeaks and rattles).. poor trucks. Finally bought a dedicated offroader and beat the snot out of it anytime I get the urge. I just beat the crap out of the pavement in the daily driver mazda3.
