Looking for another V10

Hey guys!

I didn't get the 01 CC because somebody beat me to it. But at my local dealer, there's a gold 01 F250 Scab V10. It is a long box 4x4 with only 50k on it. He wants about 16 grand for it. It's not in bad shape. It has a few scratches and dents in it, but not bad. It's an auto.

What are your opinions on this?

Thanks!

It all depends on what you need it for. If you plan on putting people in the back then keep looking for a CC. If you just plan on throwing stuff in the back seat the SC will be fine. It only took one California to Colorado trip with the family in the SC to decide to buy an Excursion.

I don't think I'll ever find another CC for under 10 grand.

I really love the V10. It really hauls. Where I work, we have a '99 F250 Regular Cab V10 and it is dang quick.

I was real lucky to have driven a '03 F250 V10 with only 5 miles on it back in the fall of '02. It was the first brand new truck I have ever driven. I didn't romp on it because of the 5 miles on it. I don't know the mileage on it now. It's about 50-60 miles away from my town.

It amazes me how so many people knock me for wanting a V10 instead of the PSD. At first, when I was in high school, I wanted a PSD but after driving the work truck mentioned above, I was sold on it. I never wanted a diesel after that.

I really don't see any reason to buy a diesel unless you tow almost every day. I don't tow all that much, just a occasional load of cattle.

If I get this truck, what can I expect for mileage? About 12-13 mpg????

i got a 2002 f250 super cab short bed v10 4x4 laraiat. i love it! i dont like the looks of a crew cab. my super cab looks sweet! i dont care about back seat room, i dont ever have to sit there! im sure its more comfortable to sit in the rear of a crew cab. im not concerned with it cause i dont sit back there. the dirvers seat is pretty comfortable and thats all i care about! the crew cabs are ugly in my opinion. im sure some of you guys love them. i dont! its just too long looking. if i had a huge family id probably lean towards a crew cab or an excursion. 15 mpg freeway empty flat land. 16 mpg if you really baby it and go slow. i payed 16,000 for mine in 2005 with 59,000 miles. i shopped around at the time and it was sweet deal! good luck

15-16 mpg is not bad at all for a V10. Seems like it is not a gas hog like some people have been telling me. Do you get those figures at 65-70 mph or faster? Does the V10 get better mileage with a short box than a long box or is it the other way around?

I've never owned a V10 before. I want to learn as much as I can on this engine and what it can do and what it can't do.

16 grand for a truck like yours? That's not a bad price, considering the low mileage and it being a Lariat. Congrats on your truck. I bet it looks good!

Some people get that and some people don't. It's a hit or miss deal. No two V10's are the same. If you had two identical equipped V10's, their performance would be alot different. One would get good mpg and the other wouldn't. I'm just stating the obvious facts. Nothing is perfect.

What's causing your bad mileage? Do you drive like a grandma or are you a leadfoot? Do you tow or is it your daily driver?

The concensous around here says that for the most part you can expect 7-9 mpg towing, 10-12 mpg city, and 12-14 hwy. There are a couple that seem to get terrible and a couple that get great mileage but for the most part you can expect the above. If you don't fall in the area that I posted, your don't own the average V10. If you don't believe me just check our MPG Polls! 15-16 mpg is pretty high and only a few can consistantly get that. I've seen 15.6 ONCE, but my average is more around 12-13 mpg on the hwy!

It seems that since I went to full synthetic in the front-end, rear-end, and transfer case (mobil 1 in the diffs, castol in the TC), that I can easily squeeze out over 16MPGs on the highway, where I was once only able to get 16 consistently being a granmaw doing 65-70 with the topper/cap on it.

Now, I can drive almost any old way on the highway, and still get 16.

Maybe I need to change that fuel filter again already
