parking brake pedal problem

parking brake pedal problem
Somehow when I press the parking brake pedal down there are no clicks and hardly any tension. After inspecting, I found that the bottom coiled wire spring in the parking brake pedal mechanism/actuator has slipped off of its stop. Has anyone ever taken this assembly apart or out of the vehicle? How? Or is there a trick to grab bing the end of the wire and pulling it back to its original place?

I'm totally new to Explorers, but I'm having the same problem. I found that there is a service hole in the side of the housing where you should insert a drill bit or such to hold the lever in place. Then you can ease the cable tension, etc.- without removing the unit from the car!
At least that's what I read about for the earlier years- I saw you have a 2002. I hope that helped.
