Interesting. I'm going to be removing the running lights, anyway...my ankles are sore from hitting on them while getting in/out of the cab.

Extra ground straps on these 70ish year Ford Trucks will help the electrical system.
Here a picture showing some added ground straps and cables from engine ground on passenger side to frame and body. Toward the right of ground strap is the negative battery cable coming from the negative battery post.

Clean all connections with a wire brush or 120+ sand paper.

Back off topic.
I've had a lot of luck swapping out the bulbs in the instrument cluster without removing the cluster. I just stand on my head and grope around under the dash.
The bulb sockets can be taken out and put back in without messing with the dash.

I tried it once...got the bulb socket out okay, but had to pull the cluster to put it back in
