When I bought my '77 F250, there was a toggle switch on the dash to operate the horn. I removed that cobbed up mess and discovered that the original horn circuit was intact. The problem was that the steering shaft in the middle of column was not grounded. The steering box is a good ground. The column tube is a good ground. I could not think of any other way to ground that shaft other than doing this: https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...146826&width=0 It works fine for now, but I would like to know if I am missing something obvious here. Thanks.
That is allows a ground for the column... for the horn .....because of the rubber insulator between the metal pieces would prevent it.
So without this tab, ,,,,,,no horn worky.
Some couplers had a wire instead of the tab. (And that would be the easy fix in the absence of the tabs) Either way, you need a path for current from the column shaft to the steering box.
