I'm elbow deep in the front of my motor right now. new waterpump, vac.pump, alt. is out. got to remove the fuel filter & bracket to service t-stat and valvecover gaskets.
#1-whats the best way to break open & drain the fuel without spilling 1/2 gallon of diesel on everything??
#2-should I change the lift pump(245K+)?? its easily accessed right now. and do I need to roll the motor over to certain spot for installation??
I just remove the two bolts that hold the header in place, leave the lines attached to the filter, it will stay there. Now remove the filter bracket.....
If you want to drain it there is a little wheel and drain line under the filter..... draw off some fuel "check for water" then close the drain and unscrew the filter.
thanks Pete, I'll try that. I think I'm missing the drain line though, looked as if the drain would dump right on the valve cover. I'll grab a line out of the junk box. I picked up a new Carter lift pump tonight when I returned the fan tools I rented.
thanks for the pic. my filter(napa3617) dont appear to have the bottom cap, looks like a one piece with the drain **** and elec. connector right on the filter itself. is this stock for a '94 or did somebody make a swap?? also what are each of the three elec. connections(2header/1filter)?? thanks
Header: side is Fuel filter plugged* (vacuum sensor), top black is fuel heater and bottom is the WIF* water in fuel sensor.... * if you ground these you should get a dash light. The heater comes on by an internal switch at 32*F wire is constant power....12V
just pulled my lift pump. the arm is pretty crooked. my new one is fairly straight. I've heard of the difference before, is this a upgrade or do I have the wrong part?
