Do the stock car guys run engines backward? I know in boats we turn motors around and drive off the crank snout to help the boats turn left, (CW rotation of the prop), but I never heard of that for asphalt or dirt..........aMP
I posted a long time ago where a friend got a super deal on a 427 motor
I helped install and fire up which became a battle until I found out it was a used marine motor. With a 435 box bump started we had 4 reverse 1 forward gear. We almost crashed on the ranch laughing so hard driving in reverse, lot of bier was consumed during ranch test.
Crank, cam and dizzy swap then she ran great in the forward direction.
A C-6 will not run in reverse rotation as well a 435 box over a long time with the opposite internal thrusts as well oil leaking out of the input shaft seal.

Did you have to change anything else??...........aMP
OK so why a revers rotation motor? A lot of expense for no return.
Yes I also would like to know the attraction to the reverse rotation engine. And the above story is either incomplete, or just part of a story..............aMP
So are you thinking a rear mounted engine like in the bed area? Or just moving it back removing the firewall? If you can go into detail a little more it'll help with the info you get from everyone. Sounds like an interesting project....

Why change the crank?.......What else was changed besides the above?.......aMP
The rear main oil seal area on the cranks have shallow angled slash grooves to that help pull the oil back into the motor, run in reverse rotation causes the opposite, a small oil leak.

That is the least of the problems you haven't addressed. Wouldn't matter anyway, the starter is still going backward, (not on the list of things changed) so it would just bang and pop everywhere, but the chambers........AND the oil pump (also not on the list) is sucking all the oil OUT of the engine into the PAN..........Like I said, nice part of a story.........aMP
If I put the engine in the bed, and leave it standard rotation. In theory all I would need to change to go fowards is the differentials. the would have to be flipped end for end which would make them turn the opposite direction. but I would have a predomently front wheel drive truck. only using the transfercase for rear wheel engagement.
that little bit about the grooves in the crank. could they get clogged???? causing the same oil leak??
