Hub Conversion
Hello! I have a 1999 Ford F-150 4x4. I am trying to find out if it is possible to switch from the auto hubs to manual hubs. For one, better gas mileage, second I would know for certain when they are locked or unlocked. Thanks!

Unfortunately these trucks don't have hubs that you can replace to accomplish what you're trying to do. The hubs that the wheels bolt to are splined to the axles which causes them to turn all the time. The part that disengages the axles from the transfer case is the center axle disconnect. It basically is a splined sleeve that couples the inner and outer parts of the passenger's side axle together which causes the front differential to power up the axles.
