I was challenged..

.. to a competition to see who's truck can out pull the other.

Competition, is a 2002 GMC Z71 supercab, short box, 5.3, 373's.

My truck, 2005 XLT 4x4 Screw, 5.4, 373's.

Any predictions?

He wants to get new tires first, so this thing probably won't happen for quite a while, if at all.

Thats a cool challenge, but I don't think it's worth tearing up the tranny, BECAUSE you know that nobody wants to give in . you know the ford versus chevy thing . I know I would burn up everything so the chevy didn't win..LOL

Well, first of all....I wouldn't think it worth it either...

Are you talking about hooking the trucks together and see which truck drives off with the other in tow?

Lots of strain on the driveline...but as for who would win? That would depend on WEIGHT more than anything else.

In 4-low, each truck has enough power to spin all four on pavement. A limited slip in the rear and front would help, but for the most part, it's going to be two trucks squealing away, with the heavier one who can put more power to the ground...

more weight=more friction=more pulling power.

So, a 5800 lb Screw would easily outpull a 5100 lb Chevy. Every time.

Yes, it would be with a strap tied to the back of each truck.
I agree; it's not worth beating up the drive line, but I sure would like to whip that truck around like a rag doll!!

Well, with the differences in the torque curve, the stronger frame, and most importantly your extra 600 lbs....

you would certainly whip it around like a rag doll..

Whose truck sits higher? If his sits higher you're SOL, cause as he pulls your traction's gonna go down quickly whereas his will go up.

Lots of stress on the driveline. Why not just race them? The Chevy will win...but still...the race is a lot less stressful than a pull.

If you go through with it and use straps, put a blanket on the strap so if it's breaks, neither of your trucks gets messed up.

Well, I don't know about that with a race....

According to Consumer Reports an F150 XLT Screw 4x4 5.4 will do 0-60 in 8.3 seconds....

The Silverado crew cab with the 5.3 will do it in 8.7.....

I've never seen a Chev 1/2 ton that sits higher than a 4x4 F150. His is stock all around. In fact, I can't tell whether most Chev 1/2 tons are 4 wheel drive until I see the decals on the body because they sit relatively low. We've also had a go from the lights and from a roll, and I think he has the edge on me from what happened, although it was a crude measurement of acceleration and not well planned.

Crazy01, his truck isn't a crew (scab), so it's quite a bit lighter.

Yeah they sit entirely too low for 4WDs. As for the acceleration debate, I know for a fact the 5.3L will outrun the 5.4L in the half tons...been there in both trucks stock and otherwise matching. Not sure why the 0-60 numbers indicate otherwise.

Go for it then, if you feel the need to put stress on your driveline...with the higher stance, your truck will lift the rear end up a little and give you more traction. Just keep the RPMs as close to your torque peak in first gear as you can.

You know what I'd do? Show up with the truck loaded to maximum payload in the bed. Bags of sand or something. Weight = traction. Engage 4x4 low range, hold the brakes 'till he starts spinning, then walk away with him. Easy.

These "hook the trucks together" competitions are pointless. All it does is see who has more traction, which is probably why he wants new tires.

I think Rusty's on to something. My old man use to do that (and ruined three motors on his 78 XLT) but he told me that he would wait for the other guy to start spinning his tires then just tow away. Good luck

do what rusty says, but dont tell anyone. i.e. if you have a tonneau, cover the load. wait for the wheel spin and slowly pull that GM down the road everyone will be suprised at your truck's awesome power!
