Hey guys, Its getting down to the day that i purchase my very own diesel. Many of you know. At this point im trying to get the best truck i can for the money. Now i have some random questions that i want to ask without starting a new thread everytime. So heres my first of many. Has anyone dropped both tanks and cleaned them out? How hard is that to do? Does anyone have a procedure? Thanks
I don't see why you would need to drop the tanks to clean them. The amount of gunk in the bottom of the tank would be minimal and pry not worth your time to un mount it.
I've never dropped my tanks before but have cleaned out larger agriculture diesel tanks that have been in use for decades only to find an inch or less of residue on the bottom of the tank. Those are 500 to 1000 gal tanks that are not kept in the best condition.
Just remember to change your fuel filters on a regular basis and you should be fine.
Ok thanks, heres another question. You guys with stacks. How did you mount them? If i go with a 3 inch down pipe, Where do i go with the rest of the pipe up to a 5 inch? I need some pics and ideas. Thankyou
you can go with 4 or 5 inch. I just priced piping out for redoing mine today and none are cheap. 4 inch 90 elbows are around $27 a piece my cost at napa, 5 inch are $45 each. t splitter pipes are $110 in 5 inch, those are all aluminized pipe. so my plan is,since I am cheap, is buying the 5 inch pipe and using a chop saw to cut the pipe at 30 degree angle then weld them back together to make a 3 piece 90 degree angle. I will do that for all 5 elbows i will need, 2 to the stacks, 2 together for the splitter and one under the truck. with dual 5 inch pipe this won't hurt the flow at all. I will be down grading from my 6" mitre cut stacks to 5 inch turn outs but the price was right and mine are shot. they are starting to rust out adn one is too rust to even have a good shine. so out it goes!
Ya im just trying to figure out a good way. The stock size is 2 and a half rite? What if i went from a 3 inch downpipe reduced to a 2 and a half, then run that all the way back and get a big reducer from 5 to 2 and a half. Do the even make that big of a reducer? This is going to be crazy.
stock pipe is 3.5 I will coming off the 3inch DP straight to 5 inch. it will require 2 "reducers" on 3 to 4 and a 4 to 5. by going stragiht to 5 inch it will require 1 less reducer compared to running 4 inch then to the 5 inch stacks.
O rly? The stock exhaust is 3 and a half on that truck! Sweet that makes it easyier. Im not sure where i can get 5 inch pipe around here? Nor the Reducers. And also thats got to be expensive.
Napa can get you everything you need. The pipe at wholesale cost to me was around $65 for 10 foot. Stacks are not cheap. The way I am doing is about the cheapest you can go. I bought the 5inch turn outs off ebay for $110 for the set. they were cheap cause they had a small blemish. then do the piping just by cutting and welding the rest of the plumbing with out using the prebent elbows. It won't look just exactly the way I would like but it will still flow plenty of exhuast and most of it will be covered so it will be out of sight.
Ok thats not to bad. I have a friend who works at napa and i will see what he can do. Even if he can give me a little discount, Thanks again O and heres an easy question, What size axles are in these trucks? I know the twin I beam for the 250 but wut size dana is it?
Ok thats what i thought, I didnt know they used a sterling 10.25 I thought maby a dana 70. Whats in the newer superduties 99-03? I was thinkin Dana 50 and Dana 60 or 70
I would look at all of your options before you head to NAPA. In my area they are just as bad as the stealership when it comes to prices. Check out a couple of the site's sponsers. The kits are somewhat pricey but they are clean.
