tapping a cast iron manifold

tapping a cast iron manifold

stripped the O2 sensor hole in my Galant with a cast iron manifold...will helicoil work or are we wasting our time?

A helicoil will work, If I remember right it is the same size as a spark plug. So will drill and tap for a pipe plug then drill and tap for the O2 sensor. I have done both. The helicoil is obviously quicker.

Helicoil will work if there is enough thickness to handle it. You might be better off plugging off that hole, and having a fitting for the sensor welded into the pipe just below that.

thanks guys, he was able to just tap it!!!! it's a single wire O2 sensor, so it's near worthless anyway...been driving around with a bolt for a week and she runs great.
