I curious what on earth the HP and Torque come stock on my 1995' 351 5.8ltr EFI eddiebauer bronco. I have looked on a bunch of vehicle sites, and they only list the 302 or the 4.9 v6. Just curious, and does anyone know of a company that makes turbo charger kits for 5.8ltr bronco. I know they have superchargers, but turbos are better. Thanks - REm
Just curious, why is a turbo better and why would you want one over a supercharger? I am not saying that one is better than the other. I'd go supercharger, and no I have never heard of a turbo setup for 351s in trucks but there might be a turbo kit for mustangs that swap in a 351.
a turbo is better then a superchager, in an efi engine. You can stick huge blowers on carb engines, but not efi. The best supercharger does what, 120+hp. A superchager adds an extra pulley on your engine, so basically it takes power away and give it more. A turbo charger runs off your exhaust. It spins a fan inside which spins another intake fan, this is otherwise unused enery, and turbos can get way more boost. A downfall to a turbo, is if its good you have to have a cool down and warm up if your going to or just used it at heavy compression. I know abotu turbos cuz i know a guy with a riced out exlipse, and its got 400+hp, and believe me at that cars weight and power, it goes. I heard you can get about 45psi out of a t88 turbo charger. biggest supercharger i've seen is like 7psi? But you would have to build your engine with the right strong enough parts to handle it. Someone also told me the reason alot of american engines dont have turbos is because there engine blocks are made of softer metals comapared to imports.
I would take a supercharger anyday! I have had both on my vehicles, and the turbo chargers are nothing but trouble. One waste gate problem and you'll end up having to do an engine rebuild. It happened to me. Also, I have run a 9 psi charger on my Vette, and I know the Paxton Novi 2000 is capable of up to 27 psi, so the whole 7 psi max is a misconception.
Some things to consider. 1. Ford has a TSB out concerning superchargers/turbos on trucks with the E4OD tranny. Basically it says don't do it. 2. You're talking about a truck here. It isn't a race car. You want more low RPM torque & power in a truck, which can be accomplished much better and less expensively than with a blower or turbo. 3. If you do either a blower or turbo you will have to run higher octane gas.
Now for the import engines being made of stronger metal.... LOL. Now I think I really have heard it all. Imports have much thinner (read weaker) cylinder walls and with a few exceptions are made from inferior metals compared to american made vehicles. But the real weak spot is in the head gaskets anyway. Unless it is specifically built for it no engine can handle more than about 12 lbs of boost. Head gaskets & valve seals will fail at the high boost levels.
