Talking New Owner Questions????????

Howdy Everyone,
We'll, I went and got me one of those fancy new diesel pick'um trucks last weekend (2007 F350 XLT C/C SB 4X4). This is my first diesel truck and to be honest, I'm a little nervous about switching from my 2002 V10. I have a couple questions that hopefully you can all help me with:

1. If I'm just cruz'n around town and pull into a store parking lot, do I have to wait a few minutes before turning it off?????? If so, how long? Does that only apply to haul'n a$$ speeds and towing???

2. How worried do I have to be about my EGT?? and what should I look for to determine if it is getting too high??

3. I tow a 12000-13000 lb. FW Toy Hauler. When towing, should it be in the Tow/Haul mode all the time or just when going up grades?

4. Are there any "Must Do's" that help out these motors and dose not void the waranty.

Those are all for now.........I'm sure there will be more

Thanx,
Roach

Welcome to the Diesel world, I think you will enjoy! As far as the idling before turning off, some do it and some dont, I dont thinks its really to necesarry like it used to be, At least from what ive been told. I only do when towing or working the engine hard. Ill just let it idle for a minte or two before shutting down. If I was you I would get an EGT gauge, Its well worth it, and will keep you towing safely. Keep your tow-haul on at all times when towing, you will love how the tranny slows you down when braking. As far as "must do's" I think gauges are #1. Get a tranny gauge to go along with your EGT gauge. Gives you a good piece of mind to know how hot things are getting.

Gauges... Gauges... Gauges!

It's a solid must.. We got a sale goin on... Check us out...

You need something to monitor boost, EGT (deadly if over 1200) and Trans Temp.. Gauge on the dash is worthless..

Must do's

Don't forget about regular maintainence. I'm not sure what the dealer told you about oil changes, but most of us change anywhere from 3000 to 5000 miles. Only use Racor, Motorcraft, or Internation oil filters (little more expensive then gassers, but the engine likes these brands).
Also, change the fuel filters 10,000 to 15,000 thousand miles. Use only Motorcraft fuel filters (somewhere around $50) or International fuel filters ($32) at my local International store 40 miles away, if that's local.
To save a little money (costs $65-$100 oil change at a shop, and around $150 for fuel filters at shop), try to do these things yourself. Their are great people at this forum with lots of knowledge and look through the tech folder at this site if you have questions.
Hope this helps a bit and enjoy your Rig.
