O.K. here is a new one, My oil fill cap looks to be deterirating(sp) I have looked through some folks galleries and seen the same problem on other trucks. does anyone know what causes this? will post pics in a bit.
Mine is starting to look like that also with the little holes on the top. Glad I am not the only one. Maybe the problem is we drive our truck more and have to do more oil changes.
Mine looks the same. It looks almost like a mouse had nibbled on the top or somthing. I wonder how it got chipped out from the middle of the cap and not just on the edge?
One would think the edge would go first from being used. I dont know I just hope that it doesn't get to much worse.
Same as you, Greased lightning and garden hose. the cap has been like this for awhile, (ask Rampage he saw it last weekend when we went camping, and his engine was so shiny I actually came home Sunday and cleaned mine so its not something that the cleaner has broken down)
Krenzy--- look closer, the cap is pitted and the holes go all the way through the plastic, luckily its just a cover over the real cap, but anyway, will pick one up tomorrow at the parts house.
I thought it might be rubbing adainst the insulation on the underside of the hood but there is plenty of clearance, I guess the plastic is breaking down due to temperature/environmental causes.
Brandon also pointed out the mine is starting to pit as well and I have never cleaned my engine bay! The cap is not chewed-on its almost like its deterierating but nothing else plastic under the hood is following suit.
I've seen 409 do that to plastic, but mine still looks new after many many cleanings with GL. I wonder if IH may have gotten a bad batch of caps two of yall are 99's
