Is it normal for Broncos to have what appears to be condensation on the "bed floor" when you lift the carpet? It resembles condensation more than a leak.
I've just bought a 93 bronco and have discovered the same problem. I just replaced the rear speakers - i think the moisure is leaking through the roof seal, although additional input would be great. I've been debating on how to solve the problem...
CRAP! Looks like I'm in the same situation. I am getting a wet area right behind the drivers seat, below the speaker (right about where the seat belt connects to the floor) - after a good, long rain. Is this the infamous roof seal problem? Do the seals just wear out? Top has never been off!
I just bought some GE Silicone II sealant and am about to try to seal the top from the outside. anyone try this yet? bad/good news? should i not do this? i am definitely trying to avoid taking the top off and resealing that way.
Thanks in advance.
A friend of mine, who owns a body shop, gave me some STICKY rubber. It comes in rolls. I don't know the brand name. He suggested that I press this rubber into the seams of the roof/top (with a paint stir stick) to complement the existing seals. I'll do this and may then seal with silicone if needed.
Hi I've got an 88 had it now for about ten years. The problem sounds like the seals. I guess you could try the silicon but I would suggest to remove the top and replace the seals. Its not difficult and it would be worth it if you could get a sunny weekend. The two things I would suggest are get a full set of rubber and replace the two pieces that are on the rear that seal to the tailgate. Good luck and if you need any other suggestions let us know.
Well the truth is the only place I've looked for them is from ford. They needless to say were fairly expensive I THINK they ran about 150.00 for the set. Please don't quote me on that. Start with your local dealer to get a baseline for the price range. Then start scouring the net. I'd try jeffs bronco graveyard they mostly have older bronco parts, Maybe My big bronco.com then to the links. I don't have any good install info but Good luck and post if you need any more help.
Hey guys.. I have one more suggestion before you pull the top. I had the same problem and discovered it was a pin hole along the back side of the rain gutter. It took me forever to find it. Finally I just got some silicone and ran it along the gutter and it fixed the problem. If you have a leak in the seal you will see a water stain ( maybe slight) on the rubber. Another indication is if you pull your speaker and look inside for moisture behind it. Just my opinion.
Yeah thats a good point I didn't even think about. I assumed the top was the prob. The ford rain gutters especially on trucks with tired paint are prone to rusting. If they went long enough they could eat into the panel or the roof line. So I'd suggest looking berfore leaping. Good luck in the search.
Scootin, you have leak at the roof gutter...the back part. Seals are 150 from ford, replaced mine and it still leaks! Not sure why. Thought of silicon, but thought of the mess it'd leave if I ever had to take top off.
You say the roof gutter - back part? Is there a front, and a back part? If the silicon would work, I would be tempted to give it a whirl. I really don't plan on taking the top off. I don't know if I want to take the top off to put new seals on, only to have the same problem...
If I'm not mistaken the seals for the roof have nothing to do with the rain gutter problem. The rain gutters rust through the metal in either the panel directly behind the door or the roof. That being the case the seals will not help. The options are replacing the rain gutters, or silicone or some such sealant. I would suggest that you stop the rust either way. Good luck
