I have an 81 ford truck and I have a bad problem with wheel hop and axle tramp. I was wondering if there was anything out there that i could install on it quick and easy to lessen the hop. The truck has factory rear suspension and springs. I know heavier spring help but I don't want to hurt the ride much more. standered traction bars limit the amount of axle travel also I know so is there anything I can do that wouldn't require to much modifications?
you could make a traction bar that bolts solid to the axle and has a shakle at the end that mounts to the frame. it lets the axle move in its normal arc. but keeps it from twisting.
One time i saw a truck with some sort of bracket on top of the leaf springs that allowed a shock obsorber to bolt to it one one end and to the frame on the other. would this set up work very well or would it only dampn the jerk a little bit?
the shock is horizontile and not verticle. It is basicly the same set up as what hav24wheel said only it uses a shock absorber instead of a metal bar. It had a ford motorsports sticker on the absorber so I was wondering if it was some kinda kit ford offered.
back in the day i had a 77 f-150 with a built motor, i used the traction bars that hav24wheel mentioned. i actually bought them i did'nt make them. they are adjustable at the frame end. they worked great and you could'nt even see them.
the rear springs are probally worn. like farmboy said maybe some new leafs or a new pack it would defenitly stop it.i just installed a 12" lift in a 78 s/c and with no shocks he was burning out withh 33s all day and i didn't see any wrap
