Hard to describe the old style can opener used but here goes...
The type I use has a pointed end for puncturing a hole in the can, the other end is rounded for removing bottle caps and is curved at the ends being about 5-6'' long.
Using the rounded end (possibly wraping black electrical tape on it) gently grasp under the back/inner edge of the trim and lift upward to remove the trim. Go slowly in small steps, don`t rush, the trim will get bent or twisted.
Anyone who has done this can jump in and maybe explain it abit better.
Thanks Fomoko1, it worked. I used a bottle opener in combination with vice grips that I taped up. It didn't come off perfect but I think I can reuse it after a little reshaping. Thanks

I`ve seen afew different style of bottle openers, is there one type that`s called a church key or all they all called that?
The one I`m thinking of works pretty slick for removing trim without bending or marking it.
Wow, and I thought that my dad was the only one with that EXACT set-up with the tape and everything! I thought that he was crazy when he handed that to me and said "use this" when I asked him how to remove the stainless.
