Talking The little red wire

How many months have I said I'm going to someday pull the red tube off the wastegate and just see if it makes a difference?
Man this has got to be some kind of procrastination record, but today I thought of it again and said what the heck.
Oddly enough, (duh) hey I get over 22lbs now. Pegged the gauge in about 3 seconds. Got a SES light to go with it and toned it down but hey. Mission accomplished. It works.

With your mods, ONLY 22psi? Hmm something doesnt sound right. I think you have some sort of leak. Intake or exhaust leak. Either way its going to hurt the performance. Did you plug the elbow on an intercooler boot clamp bolt?

I was thinking the same thing. I can get 22 easily but not instantly. Heck, for some reason I cannot get the SES light to activate with this TS. Was that your experience too Kris?

BTW that is with WG connected properly.

I could get 28psi before i changed to the 1.15. Then after that i could only get 24psi. That was with the TS. And then just recently i found out i had an exhaust leak but i dont know if it was there with the TS.

But i dont know what i can do now with the ATS and stock wheel/1.15 and DP tuner, because my transmission slips so bad, when the turbo lights it feels like someone stepped down on an imaginary clutch pedal, literally.

Could be the seals on the up pipe at manny or before it enters the turbo, that would be my guess

I think he meant that he now makes over 22psi.

As in, he used to be stuck at 22, but now w/ the red line unplugged, makes more than that (pegs the gauge).

Ryan is correct. The wastegate, which I never touched before, was set by someone, somewhere, somehow . . . and I got to 22 and it was wide open. So now, with the line undone, the gauge which tops at 30, ain't enough. The gauge pegged in about the time it takes to sneeze at it.
5 tons 0-60 in 5. Man whats not to get giddy at?

Edit: theres no boost leak. I had one about half a year ago and everything was gone through pretty thorough. I think I'd have to knock a hole in a boot to leak now. Up at 30 that turbo sounds like an air raid siren.

so is the red tube pulled from the "can" by the wastegate?
Are you plugging the hole and the tube with something?

You would pull the red line off the wastegate actuator (yep, the brass canister thing), and plug it onto a nearby intercooler boot clamp bolt.

I did this a couple of weeks ago and while I got a tremendous increase in boost pressure I also experienced turbo surge for the first time and I thought the truck ran like crap. I drove it maybe 3/4s of a mile and then pulled over and put it back on.

Anyone else have this experience?

I didnt plug the hole. I just slipped the end over the IC boot clamp bolt which was right there.

Yep. With just stock fueling, while pulling my trailer up a hill.
Now you have a DP chip, that will aggravate the turbo stall.
PMS hint:
The cure is a bigger turbo.
