Does anyone have or use exhaust dumps? I want to keep the muffler for sometimes when I don't need the loudness, but I want to be able to open the pipes up for cruising around town.
Summit and Jegs sell them........"cut-outs".....generally in the racing section. Pretty common for daily drivers at the local drag strip back in my day... and I still see some at our local strip here. They mount in various places ahead of the muffler.......some have a switch now to open and close.....old style we just reached under and unbolted. sposedly illegal for "street use" now I think.
Good Luck
Probly could make your own if you have a torch and welder

I have a dump on my 95 F-150. When I had the exhaust done at my local race shop, we talked about the best placement of how the dumps would go to give me the best performance. We ended up going with a single 3" dump right after the y pipe and before the cat. I mud bog the truck and have events where I need to have a full exhaust in some classes, so I cap it for those and leave it uncapped for all the rest. The big thing you need to keep in mind is that you need to make sure you leave enough room after your O2 sensor so it reads properly for your EFI, which again is why mine is after the Y and not in it as my truck is a speed density with only 1 sensor, as opposed to my buddies Bronco, which is a Mass Air with 3 sensors from the factory.
I think I'd rather do it after the cats because I don't want it to sound too beastly. Then it would feel straight poser since I don't have any aftermarket stuff on it yet except port matched heads. Thanks for the info though, I'll be looking that up at Jegs to see what I can find.
