removing the pdf

i would really like to buy a 6.4 but i dont want all the technological "problem waiting to happen" junk on my truck. keep it simple.

Has anybody heard, seen, talked about, or actually removed the particulate filter from one of these bad boys? is it even possible? (i know anything can be done. maybe a better question is can it be removed in a reasonable way..lol)

just curious...

It can be removed at your expense. Never seeing the dealer for any warranty or repair work.

In addition to Maxium 4X4's comment, consider State Inspections. Not sure if your state has them, but if it does, you'll never pass with an altered system. Also, allot of states are introducing or have introduced Emission's testing, removal of these EPA mandated devices will not only not allow you to pass emissions or a state inspection but quite possible get you hefty fine. Is the gain in performance/economy really worth the potential issues surrounding the removal of the DPF and sensors?

lol...thats great. sad thing is...it may be true! ky (as far as i know) does not do emissions checks.

but from what i gather, it is possible to remove this thing? the pcm wont shut the engine down or throw any codes? i havent actually inpsected a pdf closely. if it as simple as unplug this and plug this up, i may just have a 6.4 sittin in my driveway b4 too long....

It won't be that easy, reprogram and do a little wiring. Anything can be done, but it will done at your expense as I stated. Once items are removed you will have to take care of the perimeters in the programming.....I'm not the one to tell you at all about that but the mechanical side is easier done with the cab off and some tubing, few parts from the 6.0L and ...

When will people learn to leave well enough (or even better than well enough) alone?

Hahahaha...

I'm against taking it back to the dealer and complaining. Once you purchase a vehicle the government and anyone else should stay out of your personal business.

Probably as soon as the idiots in the EPA, UN, etc learn to quite screwing everything up.

The whole premise of emissions causing global warming or other so-called catastrophes is BS. Humans including their vehicles are only emitting 4% of Carbon dioxide. So maybe as soon as we plug all the volcanoes, then we can start working on the vehicles.

I agree you probably COULD remove the filter but its not the greatest idea. As Maximun said, mechanically it could be done, but i dont think you could reprogram the computer to stop it from trying to regerate the filter. Me personally i would rather have all that diesel going into the filter to do something useful with the filter there, rather then have all that diesel go into where the filter "should be" and straight out the tail pipe. Its up to you though.

do you think anyone will make a more "efficient" filter?
Like a part of an aftermarket exhaust.

I think the filter is the least of anybody's worries there is alot more going on with the emissions then just the PDF. A cat,egr and so on,to reprogram the computer to not regen would be difficult to say the least everything would have to be recalibrated. It would seem better for those that must play to just reprogram the computer for more power and let it regen. Even our new fire equpiment has these filters used to be fire equipment was exempt not anymore.

I dont know...like I said, I haven't really looked at a PDF closely, but I have a hard time believing that its "fully" integrated in to the system. Maybe I am wrong, but a filter in the exhasut certainly seems like a "bolt on" type of engineering add-on. I know that the engine was proabably desiged with the PDF in mind, but the same can be said for the EGR valves and those can be dealt with.

Who knows? I am sure if we give it enough time (and throw enough bored shade treers' at the problem) someone will figure it out.

As I understand it, doesn't the regen only occur when enough backpressure is sensed in the filter? If so and if you remove the filter, wouldn't the computer just never inititiate the regen because there would never be enough backpressure?

I doubt it is as easy as that, I'm sure some sensors\CEL whatever would start flashing and calling in Big Brother so you can be arrested and shot for polluting, but in theory, wouldn't the above be true?
