Got a 90 5.8 truck style efi engine that will try to run in the key START position but dies when the ign. springs back to the ON position. I got code 95 because I grounded the fuel pump circuit to run constant to check fuel pressure which is at 42 psi. It has spark while engine cranking but I can't check while running (obviously). Plugs are clean, cap/rotor looks good, does have voltage to the coil. I tried banging on the IAC valve thinking it might be stuck. Checked for broken vac. lines. Possible TFI module? thanks for any replies.
Could be the module, but I would fist sheck the actual ignition switch on the lower part of the column. They were recalled years ago because the 4 metal ears that held the plastic assembly into place were not tight enough and you would lose the connection. If the plastic insert (where the wire plug in) is loose, I usually take a screwdriver and a hammer and tap them up to tighten the assembly. If this works, I would replace the switch because the contacts have probably been arcing and will have more resistance.
Just out of curiosity, have you tried holding the throttle down a little when cranking? This will rule out the IAC.
Yes I did try both WOT and close throttle. I even tried disconnecting the IAC on both procedures. Funny thing is the TPS reading is .9 v at idle position? Shouldn't it be around .5v? I don't think this would cause a no start though, right? I didn't readjust the TPS yet because they're under the TB and removal of the TB is neccessary to get to the TPS mounting screws on these truck style TBs.
I'll check the ign sw out. Thanks
