Exclamation Spark Plug Problem?

Ok here is my problem..1990 F-150 XLT Lariat AT 5.0(supposedly). Went to change plugs today and AutoZone sold me Motorcraft ASF42C for the plug in this engine according to the manufacturer. Pulled plug that was in it and it is a Champion 2408. Not even close to the same plug and the Motorcraft plug won't even thread into the hole. Champion has longer threads and I can't find an application guide online that would tell me what this Champion plug fits. HELP ME Please !!!!

Autozone is really good at selling you the wrong parts.

I use autolite #5125.

Andym it is the right plug for the application that my vin# says the original motor is. He sold me the right plug for the engine that should be in my truck. I guess what I'm asking, as I can pretty much be certain that it is not the original engine, what frickin motor is it ? And how can I tell?

Well, a '90 5.0 would say "5.0 LITER" on the intake manifold.

How about a picture of the engine?

Ok it says 5.0 on the intake. The only champion spark plug reference guide I could find was at www.sparkplugs.com show this 2408 plug being used in a 5.8L lightning engine yrs 93 thru 95..possible to put 5.8L in with 5.0 intake? Or is it possible for it to be a 5.0L with 5.8L heads? This is so much fun !!! Thanks so far guys !!

Andy, I think he's saying that he pulled a 2408 out of his engine, but the ASF42C seems to ring a bell with me as the right plug for a 5.0. Maybe someone slapped some Lightning heads on his 5.0.

The champion 2408 is from there Truck Gold Series if I rember right. You can interchange certain plugs that are full threaded vs. half threaded as long as the depth is the same and the taper design is the same and the shoulder on the unthreaded portion is compatible. Confusing huh ? You need to have a Champion book or electronic catalog that will show you what the " basic " Champion number is for that plug. From there, you can figure out a lot more. As always...the old trick of turning the plug/bolt backwards first until you feel it drop in...then go forward...applies to most spark plugs.
