'04 vs '07 6.0 Differences?

I just traded my '04 F250 CC Lariat FX4 6.0 3.73 short bed for an '07 F350 CC Lariat FX4 6.0 3.73 long bed. Basically same truck except 250 SB vs 350 LB. I have immediately noticed some significant differences.
1. '04 at 70 mph turned even 2000 rpm, '07 at 70 mph turns about 1900 rpm. At 2000 rpm it is over 75 mph.
2. throttle response is much better on the 07.
3. engine is noticibly quieter both running and idling. '04 would quieten down after warmup. '07 quiet on initial start.

You must have the 20" wheel option on your 07.

Mine is noticibly louder on 1st coldstart and then is quieter the rest of the day -- maybe it's warmer where you are.

I love my '07....

Yeah, he must, I have the 20's and my rpm's are right where his are at those speeds. My '03 was the same as his '04 and I noticed all the same differences as well.

Late response. Yes, it does have the 20" wheels. How much actual difference in diameter / circumference does the 20" have over the 17" I had before. I don't think they are 3" taller as I believe they are a lower profile tire. However, there is obviously some difference.
Do they calibrate the speedometer/odometer for the larger tires? Or just stick them on?

Ford did not offer factory 17's in '04. '05 was the first year for factory 17's. Unless your truck had aftermarket wheels, you had 16's. The factory tires on the 16's were 31.7" tall. The tires on your current 20's are 34.1" tall. This would explain the RPM change.

Yes the trucks are calibrated at the factory for the tire size that is on a particular vehicle.

Actually they did have them on some '04s. Mine was a late build '04 with 17" wheels. Salesman said they had just came out with them and they were listed on the window sticker.

Thats interesting, I have never seen a '04 with factory 17's. I do know that '04 was the first year for 18's. I would like to see a '04 with factory 17's as every ordering guide and truck I have ever seen only had/offered 16's or 18's.

If I hadn't just traded it, I would have scanned the window sticker for you.

Regardless, even with 17's the tire height was still in the 31.7" range. I think they were actually 31.4" or 31.5".

Factory 265/70-17 are 31.6" diameter and factory 275/65-20 are 34.1". Difference of 2.5".
