Can someone help

I have a 2001 F150 Supercrew 4X4. At the last service the dealership advised me that I was going to need to have the rear yoke replaced but did not indicate it was urgent. I am not having any dripping from that area but I do notice a discoloration on the rear end housing just behind the yoke. I am wondering how soon I will need to get this fixed and if taking a fairly long, 600 miles, trip before will hurt anything.

Thanks,
hienie

Welcome to the forum

Did they say why it needed replaced? is it worn or just leaking?

They didn't say. It was my impression thou that it was leaking and it probably would get worse

When discoloration happens on metal it is usually a sign of overheating.

This dicoloration is dark and looks like it is some form of liquid . There is no dripping however but it is greasy/oily wet to the touch and makes the rag black when wiped off.

a small drip can buildlup over time and stain or "wet" the pumpkin box. this is not a immediate problem. as long as you add a cup of new gear lube, maybe once a year, you could run the truck indefinetely. small leak does not mean a failure is emminent.
