transfer case swap
Hey guys, my buddies dad has an 85 F250 with the diesel and i think manual tranny. the transfer case is shot and he's having trouble finding a suitable (cheap) repair or replacement for it. He has a borg-warner case, i don't know the number yet, hes looking. Is it possible to swap a different one in that may be more available, and what is interchangeable? Do the old NP205's from the 70's fit?

I can't answer your question not knowing what you have. My 86 F250 460 gas has a NP208. The main issue would be if the T-Case bolts up to the tranny. second are the input/output splines the same. Remember Fords are left side drives. I'm sure someone here has either tried it or knows.

I went to www.car-part.com, and plugged in a 85 f250 in Nebraska. The choices were;
Warner....$350 to $475
New Process slip yoke on rear output....$285 to $500
New Process flange on rear output.....$175 to $450
Warner....$350 to $475
