I bought my truck for it's large towing capacity, but even with all that rated capacity it would be nice to be able to monitor the transmission temp. I know that if I buy an Edge that I can use that as a tranny gauge. I have no desire to modify or change the way my truck drives(like it SMOOTH!!!), and I'd like to get away with spending less than $350. Is there another good option? Can the edge be used to monitor stats without altering the way the truck drives?
You can add a separate trans temp gauge. It has been a while, but there have been several posts on it. The only problem is most of the gauge pods, either pillar style or the one that goes where the rubber tray is in the top of the dash are two holers.
Yeah, I've read about that, and I was considering doing it to my '95 Blazer. May still do it on the Blazer, but I do NOT want to start tearing panels off and splicing wires on a brand new truck.
I guess I'm hoping to find something that will install similar to the Edge, using the OBDII port on the truck.
I’ve seen fancy code readers that you can mount and program something like 4 gauges to display, but that was awhile go with my last truck, they may have something similar now for the new body style.
There seems to be another option out there if you are looking for a 2 1/16" gauge to use in the OBD port. Google "Interceptor OBD-II Scan Gauge" by AEROFORCE. I just found it, but it looks like a nice device. Anyone else used one? It does work with our platform. http://www.aeroforcetech.com/ Prices look to be around $200 or so.

The Edge will also let you read and clear your own codes if you ever have a problem, plus you can get online and download updates for your truck instead of having to go to the dealer for a re flash. Using the Edge to skip the dealer a couple of times for computer issues will easily pay for itself.
