Solid Axle Swap Question!!!
Solid Axle Swap Question!!!
I have a 96 F150 4x4, 302 EFI with twin I-beam setup in the front. I recently found a Dana 44 front end from a 79 F150 also set up with the Coil Springs in the front. My question is will this Solid Front Axle fit my 96 or are is the distance between the center of the Coil Springs too different to fit. I know the radius arm mounting brack sets back a few more inches further and would have to be relocated on my rig, but will the coil spring mounts line up. Any and all ideas please!
there is much discussion about this swap in the axle forums if you do a search. there have been several people sucessfully do this swap, so yes the coil buckets do line up. However, most people will tell you that you need 6" lift springs to get proper clearance between the engine crossmenber and the pumkin on the axle.
I think John Deer prety much told you where you need to go there is much discussion about this swap in the axle forums if you do a search. there have been several people sucessfully do this swap,
Your question has been answered already. If you're not able to do any of this research on this on your own, then I hope you're more resourceful when you actually do the swap or you'll be in trouble.
I have been researching this build for over 8 months. I simply wanted to know if anyone could lead me to any sort of instructional link, possibly with photos. 98% of the posts on every imaginable site are really lacking in information. Kind of like you two. Thanks but next time please save your very, very helpful comments for school kids.

Oh Yea. Thanks Mr. Deere. Your reply, although the same as others, was a very civil and respectful way of trying to help. Beleave me. I have read every SAS post on this site and have gathered some very helpful tips.

mountianeer,
i applogize if my reply sounded rude, but you didnt state in your original post how much you knew about the subject of what research you had already done. I was only trying to be helpful by giving some general info and answer your actual question about the coils.
Also, no need to get upset over nothing, like me, andym and mr leech were only trying to help and give advice, not be cynical.

Go Here http://www.fullsizebronco.com/forum/...splay.php?f=29 They have the best info around for a SAS I'm in the process of doing the same thing in my 89 F-150 so if you need any pics or help let me know
I did the same on my 94 supercab. It is a pretty easy swap. A little time consuming, but not that difficult. The coils will bolt right up. all you have to do is remount the longer radius arm brakets, like you noticed. To get the steering to hook up to the 96 box, use an early to mid 90's drag link from an F350 4x4. You will need to fab a ,mount for the trac bar, and keep in mind to eliminate bumpsteer, keep the trac bar parallel to the drag link. Like stated before, you will have clearance problems on the crossmember unless you add a lift. That didn't apply to me because I went with about ten inches of lift. Are you looking to lift it also?

I completed a solid front axle swap on my 94' F-150 last summer. It was from a Dana 44 from a 79' Bronco. I maintained the coil over to maintain the softer ride. Push our trucks already have the coil buckets. I had a 4" lift already and used the drop down radius arm brackets, made a frame/track bar mount, made a custom track bar. I complete the entire swap with a complete Dana 44 rebuild under $1500. I ordered a 79' Bronco lift from Superlift and it fit everything fine. My best friends throughout this venture were the guys at Broncograveyard.com. They have great customer service and lots of parts for every situation. Let me know if you need more info. I will be posting is all soon.

Im still collecting parts (and funds) for my SAS. What radius arm brackets did you use--the 94 or 79 ones? Also, did you make drop brackets for them or leave them up near the frame? Do you have any pictures? Thanks

the 79 is the best axle for the swap and yes you will need 6 or more inch lift springs. extended brake lines as well as moving and removing certain brackets...as far as I know the coils should line up...
