4.2 timing tensioner help

First time in a 4.2 V6.
I can't seem to get the chain tensioner to compress at all.
I see the hole to put a pin in to hold it but can't get it to move at all.
Is there a good trick to this?

I haven't had one of these apart in years but I think you compress the tensioner carefully in a vise and then put a pin in to hold it.

Wink

yeah your best bet is get a vise cuz those tensioners have lots of pressure resistance even on a vise you'll get a workout recommend press it to match holes for preference put in a 5/16 or so ALLEN WRENCH cuz i tried other several pins and they all bended so had to mess around more than i really wanted to.
Good Luck!

I tried and it's stuck on one end. I really don't thnk any amount of pressure on this one would do it without destroying it, too much angle when all the way down.

I bought a new one and the parts guy said that's the deal it's made to only go one way.
