Which edelbrock carb would be best for my 400 bored .030 over with an rv cam.

Thanks, Wallyford.

1406 600cfm with electric choke would be my choice.

The 750 CFM carb adds nothing to a 400 over the 600 CFM carb. The 600 CFM carb will perform much better at lower speeds, will be easier to tune, and give better driveability.

I wish Edelbrock made an economy 500 CFM carb.

Thanks for all your replies. The PO of my truck put a 351m/400 performer intake and edelbrock 1411 (750 cfm) carb on it. It seems to be running too rich. I just didn't know if being bored .030 over what carb I really needed. This info helps a lot.

Thanks, Wallyford

Oh, I see. Yes it would need the addition of the tuning kit, Ihad to get one to fatten up the 1411 that I put on my 460. It was supposed to be the performance/manual choke version, but I had to use the smallest metering rods, largest rear jets and strongest springs to get it where I wanted it.

That tuning kit should be purchased with every carb if you want to get the carb dialed in well. Except for the increased sales and people messing the carbs up good I am surprised they don't include a step up&down parts set with every carb. Most people are totally clueless on how to tune and adjust a carb tho. Can you imagine the number of trashed out basket case carbs they would get back as "defective" tho???

Oh yeah, Years ago when I worked for a place called Super Shops, we sold performance goodies. I must have had to remove over 1000 Holley needle and seats to remove a chunk of rubber fuel line or something else because they didn't run an inline fuel filter.
DUH!!!! " This carb is junk, it just floods all of the time." No sir, you are a retard, put a fuel filter in the line!!!

Yeah, it's hard to mass produce a carb that will run perfect on any sized engine from a 221 to a 514. Some times people just don't understand this.

To compound the difficulties with 221-514 cubes those engines are hooked up to a never ending variety of vehicles and drivelines...

I have decided to swap my 1411 for a 1406 when the money is available. I have never swapped carbs before but am willing to try. This truck is not a daily driver, so I don't have to get it done quikly. Sorry for the dumb ?'s but I have become really attached to this old truck and I want to learn everything I can about it.

Thanks, Wallyford.
