help with spline count
i can buy a 28 spline trac lock with 4.11's for a 9" rear . the question is i have a 72 f100 s/b 5 lug will this be a direct fit or is the spline not the same count on mine? any info will help thxs.

Most trucks of this vintage had a 28 spline rear axle. The 31 spline was an option. Look on one of the 10 bolts that holds the carrier aka the pumpkin (maybe I oughta say artichoke 
) to the housing for a tag with the rear end code. The tag can be decoded here, or you can post it. Most likely it's 28 spline.
