draining. I opened it and nothing comes out. Is there a special trick to this or what?? There is fuel in the bowl too.

No special tricks there. Might be clogged at valve/bowl area or the line. Have you tried opening it with the key on and pump running? That might force it out. Of course if it does, there will obviously be fuel present so be prepared with a hose and container.

Key on/valve open was my next step, just didn't know if I could do that. The tube isn't blocked up 10"-12" from the bottom, I used a wire to check. My guess is it's clogged in the bowl.

Well, I still didn't get the drain to function, instead I ended up with fuel in the valley of the engine. I tried with the key on, opening and closing the drain valve. Still, it doesn't drain. After I removed the fuel filter, I mesed with the drain valve and was only able to get one small bubble of air each time I opened/closed the valve. Time for a new drain valve???

Naah, I would get some replacement orings and pull the valve off and clean whatever crap is in there clogging it out.

Are you sure the pipe is connected to the drain valve outlet nipple? When i removed mine, it wasn't secured on with hose clamps or anything. Just a rubber hose slid over each end. Maybe the obstruction in the line pushed it off when the key was on and the line was under pressure, causing fuel to pool in the valley. Don't be suprised if you get a fuel leak on the ground near the RR side of the engine. Its the fuel in the valley making its way out.

I got the same thing going. That's the right side sitting in the truck correct?
Looks like both the drain plug leaks and the valley has a shiny oil "valley".
I would like to take care of this myself. The plug is easy. What about the other
leak? Dont sweat it? Is it oil in the valley or fuel?
Guys this is my first diesel. Can anyone tell me where I can get manuals with maintanace tips and pictures of what it is Im looking at. I really appreciate your help.
thanks

RELAX, take it easy. Right side of truck is right side as you sit in it. Is it oil or fuel is always a good one. Requires a good cleaning.

As for the manual, I bought mine from ebay, Carnagesystoms or something like that. It is very comprehensive. I'll post a link in a few.

Well whoopsie, it is actually karnagesystems. And it appears there are currently no items for sale???? Wonder what happened there?

EDIT: maybe nothing. It appears I cannot search for anything on ebay right now.

This is exactly what happened. It was connected, until I did the cycle the fuel pump with the drain valve open deal. It didn't completely blow it off, but it did leak enought to have the fuel draining down the RR of the engine.
